This is probably my most favorite photo spot in Vienna. The calm pond is just so great for reflection. That is if the water is there, and there is no stage in the middle :) This is of course the St. Charles’s Church (Karlskirche).

Most of this photo is from single exposure, but I had to use a second exposure to darken the tower (the lights there are crazy bright) and another exposure to brighten few shadows.

Classic and modern

Technique: Photoshop edit, Number of exposures: 2, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones Adapter ver. IV, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 16mm, Aperture: 9, Middle exposure time: 6s, ISO: 200, Tripod used: yes, Location: 48.19907, 16.37126

This is another photo I took last weekend. I really liked as around the sunset, one could see only the outlines of the hill in the distance, so I zoomed in as much as I could to compress the view, and in the end I chosen to do a panorama, to get most of the mountains.

This is a panorama from two exposures, merged in Lightroom, edited in Photoshop.

In the distance

Technique: Photoshop Edit, Number of exposures: 2, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones MkIII Adapter, Lens: Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS II, Focal length: 200mm, Aperture: 11, Middle exposure time: 1/20s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 48.278003, 16.347291

Vienna really looks flat from up high. There are really few tall buildings and even those are away from the center. I took this shot right before the sunset, as this one huge cloud formed right above the city. It somehow reminds me of the movie Independence day, just waiting for an alien ship pooping out from it :)

A huge cloud

Technique: Photoshop Edit, Number of exposures: 2, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones MkIII Adapter, Lens: Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS II, Focal length: 70mm, Aperture: 11, Middle exposure time: 1/25s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 48.278003, 16.347291

I took a little trip to Vienna today, and one of the spots I visited was also the Leopoldsberg hill above it. So this is one of the photos I took from there. It really gives a great look of the Danube and all the bridges on it. It’s quite far away form the city, so even this view was taken at around 200mm. I ended up going with a panorama here, as the sky was a bit boring, and so did the foreground. I was also quite pleased how sharp the photo still was even in quite windy conditions. I was probably just lucky :)

So as mentioned, this is a two shots panorama, no HDR here, I used Lightroom to merge the two exposures into a panorama, and then I finished the photo in Photoshop.

Bridges over Danube

I should start planning some trips for this year. I really need some new, and preferably daytime photos. The last year with all those crazy, cloudless sunny days was so not great for daytime photos. I just hope it will be better this year, but seeing how winter looks, I’m not really that hopeful. But maybe 2016 will be a surprise :)

This is a night shot from Vienna, taken earlier last year. This is a HDR from 6 exposures, combined in Oloneo Photoengine, finished in Photoshop.
