I don’t really like to have a white sky in my photos. But here the only other choice was to make the sky grey, and I really preferred to not have that. The day I took this, under the Matterhorn in Alps, most of the sky was covered by huge clouds, so no change for any real detail there, even with HDR. But I did like the reflection, so I edited this photo anyway :)

This is a single exposure, edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.

A mountain reflection

Technique: Photoshop edit, Number of exposures: 1, Camera Model: Canon 5D mark II, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 30mm, Aperture: 13, Middle exposure time: 1/40s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 45.991124, 7.706562

One can’t even tell that there was a concert with quite a lot of people right behind me. The stage was only around 5-10m behind me. It really was noisy and I did not like the music that much also. But what can you do if you are in a city only for a short while. One just has to make the best of it :)

This is a HDR from three exposures, created in Oloneo Photoengine, finished in Photoshop. The sky is from one of the exposures, the rest is HDR. I also removed few people from the bridge, as they just bothered me in the shot.

Middle Bridge

Technique: Oloneo Photoengine, Number of exposures: 3, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones MkIII Adapter, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 17mm, Aperture: 16, Middle exposure time: 13.0s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 47.560395, 7.590886

Yes, I stopped under the bridges while being in Basel. I just like this kind of composition :) Also due to recent heat wave, the rivers in Europe are quite low, and you can see that here. Even the place I was standing on, was under water when I visited last time.

This is a HDR from 3 exposures, created in Oloneo Photoengine, merged with a 4th exposure, taken at a higher ISO, to remove the moving ships.

Technique: Oloneo Photoengine, Number of exposures: 3+1, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones Adapter ver. IV, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 16mm, Aperture: 10, Middle exposure time: 15s, ISO: 200, Tripod used: yes, Location: 47.557170, 7.596937

Please excuse my inability to keep up with the blog recently. I just returned from a visit to Basel in Switzerland, which was more of a family visit than photography. But I did try to take some photos, but with the weather extremes (crazy hot or raining) and the city being full of people (concert on the river every night, cinema in front of the cathedral….) I managed only few.

Hopefully things will get back to regular again soon, but hard to say. A lot of things to do :)

For today, a blue hour shot from the center of Basel. It was raining most of the day, and that created quite the interesting clouds in the evening. This is a blend from 3 exposures, created in Photoshop.

Clouds over Basel

Technique: manual blend, Number of exposures: 3, Camera Model: Sony a7R + Metabones Adapter ver. IV, Lens: Canon 16-35mm F2.8, Focal length: 17mm, Aperture: 10, Middle exposure time: 15s, ISO: 100, Tripod used: yes, Location: 47.560242, 7.589626

I hope for a good weather this week. No rain, and no crazy desert style sunshine. Something like I had the day I took this photo under Matterhorn would be great :)
