Boats at the Lago di Braies

I’m back. We decided to end the trip to Italy a bit earlier than planned. The reason was partially bad weather, but mostly the huge amount of snow still in the mountains. We planned to hike, but that was not possible with the paths still closed or under a big pile of snow.

But I still got a few nice photos from this week, so let’s get to one. This one was taken yesterday at Lago di Braies in the Dolomites. I had a bit of luck here. People were going up to this pontoons to take photos but right as I got there with my camera, it was empty for at least 5 minutes. So I really quickly could take a few photos of the view. I really like how the boats made for a perfect foreground element for a photo.

This is a two shot panorama, taken with the help of a tilt-shift lens. Each shot blended from 4 exposures, blended and merged in Photoshop.

Afternoon clouds over Manarola

Let’s go back to Manarola in Cinque Terre, Italy with today’s photo. This is the most typical view of Manarola that everyone takes. And no surprise there. I was in the town only for one sunset, so I also just managed this spot. To back I did not have more time to try few more. Maybe next time.

Actually if you ever want to capture a sunset from this spot, go there early. I got there around 1 hour before sunset, and I almost did not find a spot. It was so full with photographers. And even more came after me. But you know, if you are nice, there will always be a spot for another tripod :)

This is a two shot panorama, each shot from three exposures, blended in Photoshop.

Top Photography Spots – Cinque Terre

I remembered that I promised a top photography spots list for cinque terre a while ago, and I never posted one. So I had a look, and the list was partially done, but not finished. The list is online now, and you can find it here, with all the other lists, or here is the direct link. I’m still missing one photo and have to update all the menus, but that will be done soon :)

Evening overlooking Vernazza

Evening overlooking VernazzaAt first I was not even sure if I edit this one. As you can see to the side here, this photo just looked too dark to work with. Even the brightest exposure I got seemed to dark. But in the end, with a bit of work it came out quite ok :)

Here I started with a 5 exposure HDR created in Oloneo Photoengine. Then I edited the darkest exposure, to darken the lights even more. I also edited one of the darker exposure to get no movement in the docked boats. I took this all into Photoshop and blended it together.

If you want to know the location for this photos, check out the Top photography spots – Cintuque Terre list I posted today, as this is taken from one of the spots there.

Plotagraphs

I have not posted one in a while, but there are quite few Plotagraphs available on the blog. And you can see them all if you check out the Plotagraph category here.

Rocky shore in Vernazza

A more simpler photo today. While in Vernazza, I also went on top of the tower that was in the middle of the city. I did not really get some great shots, but that can also be because it was crazy hot and sunny. And I just can’t think clearly in such conditions. Still, I got few. And here is one, of the rocky shores of the city.

This is a two shot vertorama, combined in Lightroom, finished in Photoshop.

Portfolio site

For those who would like to just see my photos, without all the stuff around them, you can check out my portfolio site wwww.hdrshooter.net. There almost no text there, just a huge wall of photos :)

Tower in Monterosso

If you look closely into the previous photo I posted from Monterosso, you can see this tower right in the middle of it. There is a small viewing platform right behind it, and that’s from where this photo was taken.

It is quite close to the tower though, so I used the 17mm tilt-shift lens here, and did a vertorama. I wanted to get the whole tower and also a lot of the sky.
