Morning bus on the Dragon Bridge

For today I have chosen a photo I took in 2013 when visiting Ljubljana in Slovenia. I tried to edit this photo of the Dragon bridge years ago, but I did not like the result then. But I do like it now, even if the composition is not exactly what I would take today. At that time, the 16mm lens was the widest one I had, and I did not take panoramas that often. If I had to redo this shot now, I would do a two-shot panorama, so the dragons are not so close to the edge of the photo. Maybe if I decide to revisit Ljubljana one day, I will try that.

I took this photo very early in the morning at the Dragon bridge, when there was still not much traffic. There were busses already running, so I waited for one, to create this long exposures. This photo is a blend of 4 exposures, done in Photoshop.

Early morning in Ljubljana

I went a bit back into my photo library today, and edited a photo from 2013. My Lilghtroom catalag actually starts with 2008, as in that year I started to take photos. I don’t think I ever did one before that. Maybe on my photon, but that was like 1Mpix, so not really that great :)

This photo is from one very early morning in Ljubljana in Slovenia. Funny that I remember it like it was yesterday. There is this wooden bridge there, which gives you this view when you stand in the middle. The problem is, it shakes when somebody walks over it. So if you don’t want blurry photos, you have to go there when it’s definitively empty. And early morning is that time.

This is a blend of 4 exposures, done in Photoshop. As this was taken with the 5D mark II, I needed to use more exposures due to the lower dynamic range.

Late night moon at lake Bled

I wonder what they use to light up the castle at the lake Bled. The light is just so crazy bright. I was at least 7 exposures underexposed and still, they were just white in my photo. Even in the finished one I was not able to blend them exactly how I wanted. Must be some crazy strong lights.

I was not sure if I will even edit this photos. It was just too dark with the bright lights and bright mooon. And I did not take a brighter exposure. Better said, I did, but with a bit differnt composition and a bit out of focus. So this one had to work out until I go back to Bled one day.

This is a blend of three exposures, but mostly for the lights on the castle and the church. I also had to clean up some lens flares created by the moonlight. Edited and blended in Photoshop.

And here is also a comparison to the original RAW file. As you can see, it was really dark. And this was the brightest exposure I had.

Long exposure reflection at the lake Bled

I’m not really happy with the photos I took at lake Bled last month, but I also would be sad if I did not edit at least some of them. But looks like I will have to go back to get some sort of a nice sunset there. Maybe later this year. Who knows :)

Here is another panorama with the church in the middle of the lake, nicely flanked by the mountains. This is a two shot panorama, each shot from a single exposure. Edited and merged in Photoshop. I used a 10 stop Formatt Hitech filter here, to blur the water.

Back to posting

You may have noticed the lack of updates during the last two weeks. I was just a bit busy with work and travel, that I was not able to post. But I should be back to posting again now, until I have to leave again that is :).

Spring panorama at the lake Bled

Last week I stopped by the lake Bled in Slovania. And while the views were beautiful, the weather was a big boring for photography. The whole time the sky was either clear blue, or like in this photo, with a very soft clouds. Not really something that looks great in photos. But still I took some and will share them with you.

So here is the first one. This is a 4 shot panorama. Each shot taken with a 10 stop ND filter. Combined and edited in Photoshop. It’s a bit wide, but I did not want to crop it. It just shows the whole view so nicely.
