Making plans

So right now I have time to make plans. Before my works schedule starts in around two months, I want to do few trips, and maybe even buy a new lens. Something different to play around with in the new year. So let’s be surprised what the year brings :)

Evening view of Bratislava

This became probably my favorite view of Bratislava over the years. You get the SNP brige, the castle and also the St. Martins cathedral, so you have all the dominants of the city in one shot. Of course you have to do a panorama and have a bit of luck for a calmer Danube (it’s taken from a pontoon), but the view is just great.

Page updates

Normally around this time of the year I like to update the blog with a new look. But not this time. I still like how the blog looks overall, so I will keep it. But that does not mean there will be no smaller or bigger changes here and there. Like new photos for the homepage slide-show, rearranged menus, repositioned elements and similar. All to make your visit to the page better :)

Mirror like Danube – Plotagraph

Mirror Danube, PlotagraphFor today I have for you another plotagraph, made from one of my recent photos. While editing it, I thought that I could record the process and share that as a video with you. So don’t be surprised if you see something like that soon on the blog :)

This time I went with quite a subtle animation, just a bit in the sky, and some in the water. I did not want to overdo it. You can also see in the screenshot to the side how it looked. I had a few problem with the clouds pulling on the church tower, but I managed to remove that.

You can check out my Plotagraph Pro review here, and a guide how to create them here.

(if you use an older web browser, you may only see a static image, if you are on a mobile, please hit the play button to see the Plotagraph in motion)

Reinstalling everything

Such a fun day today. I decided to reinstall everything on my PC. It was just time to clean it up. I do that at least once a year, and it was almost a year since I did it. And it just takes ages to set up everything. So many programs, plugins, scripts and so on. At least recently I started decoupling everything from the main PC, so everything is either external or in the cloud. Having a fileserver really helps a lot.

I’m actually in a total cleanup mode right now. Organizing everything, backing up what I need, securing stuff and so on. Should have done this ages ago, and now, with over 8 years of photos, this take a long time. But once it’s done, it will be so much better :)

Night at the Danube

I start to notice that I don’t know Bratislava as much as I used to. Everywhere I go there are changes I have not seen before. Not a surprise, with how much time I spend outside of the country. Same here, where they changed all the benches and the walkway around the Danube. Of course it was an opportunity for a new compositions and I took it :)

This is a blend of two exposures, edited in Lightroom, finished in Photoshop.

When the weather does not work out

cameraSo I just borrowed two extensions tubes. A 2x and a 1.4x. With this, I can change my 70-200mm lens to a 196-560mm lens. I thought I would get some nice moon shots with it, as it was so big recently, and I already planed where to shoot. But of course, the day I got them, the weather changed to overcast and fog. And it’s not better rigt now. So no chance at all to even see something. It’s like on purpose. Some Murphys law :)

Castle zoomed in

But of course I had to at least try the extension tubes. So while I was in the city, I took this panorama, at 560mm. I was standing right next to the Old bridge when I took this, so it was 1.4km away from the castle. 560mm is quite a lot isn’t it.

Ups and downs

Work screenFunny thing about editing photos. Sometime one is not in the mood to do it at all, sometime one can’t stop. And I was in the second mood yesterday, so I was editing until around 3am :) So there are already few new photos ready for the blog, which you will see in the following days. Hope this mood keeps on for the whole 2018 :)

Long exposure sunset over Danube

The sunset yesterday looked nice, but a bit cloudy and windy. So instead of just taking photos, I did a lot of long exposures. Same as yesterday, this is also one, but this one is also a panorama. If you are curious on how hard it is to combine a long exposure panorama, it is as easy as normal photo. You will just have to correct the blend, like in the sky and water here, as the clouds and water move too much in a long exposure for Lightroom to blend them properly. No problems with static parts of the scene of course :)

This photo was taken from the new Old bridge in Bratislava. The bridge gives a really nice view, but as every bridge, it’s not so great for photos. As it’s a tram bridge, it shakes like crazy every time a tram passes by. I had to redo the photos few times, until it was acceptably sharp. But still not as much as I would like to, but you can see that only at 100%.
